Ingress Protection (IP)

Ingress Protection(IP) rating is used to specify the protection a piece of electrical equipment has against environmental factors, or its electrical enclosure. The rating normally has two numbers:

First Number: qualifies protection against solid objects and materials
Second Number: qualifies protection against liquids

We use the following IP rating for our LED products (found in each product’s technical data):

IP20: Protection against solid objects with 12mm diameter (e.g. fingers); No protection against
liquids.
IP33: Protection against solid objects with 2.5mm diameter (e.g. tools, thick wires, etc.); protection against liquids spraying at any angle up to 60° from the vertical.
IP65: Complete protection against dust and low-pressure jets of water from all directions. Limited ingress.
IP66: Complete protection against dust and strong jets of water from all directions.
IP67: Complete protection against dust and against entry of water during temporary submersion (up to 30 minutes at 1 meter depth).
IP68: Complete protection against dust and against entry of water during long-term submersion. The equipment is suitable for long-term submersion under conditions which must be specified by the manufacturer. Normally, this will mean that the equipment is completely sealed, but can sometimes mean water may enter but will not damage the equipment.
